Newsletter editor

Compose newsletters visually, preview the output, and copy Mailchimp-ready HTML without touching code.

1

Create a new draft

From the editor, click New to start a blank newsletter or announcement. Each draft auto-saves as you work.

Use the template type toggle at the top to switch between Newsletter (multi-section, weekly format) and Announcement (single topic). When you choose Announcement, a template picker offers six pre-built starting points: AGM notice, board election, event highlight, survey request, chapter milestone, and holiday greeting. Each template pre-fills with your chapter's name and URLs so you can customize from there.

2

Add and edit sections

The left panel shows your newsletter sections: events, president's message, volunteer spotlight, and more. Click a section to edit its content. You can:

  • Toggle sections on or off with the eye icon
  • Reorder sections by dragging them
  • Add custom sections for one-off content

Event details pull from your connected StarChapter data. Edit the title, description, date, location, and registration link for each event.

3

Use AI writing assistance

Look for the star icons next to text fields. Click one to get AI-generated suggestions for that section. The AI can help draft event descriptions, polish copy, and suggest subject lines and preview text.

You can also run a compliance check that scans for broken links, missing dates, trademark issues, and accessibility problems before you send.

4

Preview and copy HTML

Switch to the Preview tab on the right to see exactly how your newsletter will look in email clients. The preview matches Mailchimp rendering, including mobile layout.

When you are ready, click Copy HTML. Paste the HTML into a Mailchimp campaign's code editor. ChapterPulse will ask if you want to mark the draft as sent so your team knows it has been finalized.

5

Use the Spotlight library

The Spotlight section at the bottom of each newsletter supports a reusable library. Click Load from library to browse and search saved entries by name, heading, or body text.

After editing a spotlight, click Save to library to store it for future issues. If the entry came from the library, you will be asked whether to update the existing entry or save a new copy. Archived entries are removed from the list but not permanently deleted.

6

Customize sections (admin)

Admins can tailor the editor for their chapter under Settings > Newsletter:

  • Show or hide sections so only relevant section types appear in the editor
  • Set section defaults to override the starting body copy for Mentor Program and Introductions
  • Create custom sections (up to 10) that automatically appear in every new draft
7

Manage drafts and versions

Open the drafts panel to see all saved newsletters and announcements. Each draft keeps a version history, so you can restore a previous version if needed. Drafts marked as "sent" become read-only.

You can also clone a sent draft to reuse it as a starting point for the next issue.
